After successfully completing Segment 1, the student and a parent or guardian can complete the required steps with the Michigan Secretary of State to obtain a Level 1 Learner's License.
A Level 1 Learner's License allows a teen to practice driving while supervised by a licensed parent, guardian, or designated licensed adult age 21 or older, subject to Michigan's Graduated Driver Licensing rules.
Before taking Segment 2, a student needs at least 30 hours of supervised driving, including at least 2 hours at night. Before taking the driving skills test, Michigan requires at least 50 total supervised hours, including at least 10 nighttime hours.
The student must have successfully completed Segment 1, held a valid Level 1 Learner's License for at least 3 continuous months, and logged at least 30 hours of supervised driving, including at least 2 nighttime hours.
Michigan Segment 2 includes a minimum of 6 hours of classroom instruction, with no more than 2 hours of classroom instruction per day. Students must also pass the Segment 2 state exam.

Michigan generally requires the student to be at least 15, have held a Level 1 License for at least 6 months, have completed Segment 2, and have logged at least 50 hours of supervised driving including at least 10 hours at night.

Required items can vary depending on the class and stage of driver education. We recommend reviewing any enrollment instructions you receive and contacting us before the first class if you are unsure what documents or materials to bring.
Please contact us as soon as possible if an absence is unavoidable. Driver education has required instructional hours, so a missed session may need to be made up before the course can be completed.
Driving times are coordinated separately from classroom instruction. We provide scheduling information to enrolled families so required drives can be completed within the course timeline.
Yes. Private one-on-one driving lessons are available for $50 per hour. Call or text 734-755-3265 for current availability.
No. Private lessons can provide additional practice and instruction, but they do not replace the required Segment 1 or Segment 2 courses for teens who must complete Michigan's Graduated Driver Licensing process.
Michigan does not accept an internet-only course as a substitute for the certified driver education required for a teen to obtain a Level 1 License. Online materials can still be useful as supplemental learning tools.
